Lebanese Poetry: Major Works of Pascal Assaf

Opera of Pain

The collection that made Assaf's name across Lebanon and the Arab world (2012). A 178-page volume of poems he described as "the voice of sharp sorrow and the voice of weariness"—dense with imagery, symbol, and existential darkness.

I Love One Woman

Published in 2015, the first half of a two-part work. Its subject is an imagined beloved—a woman the poet vows to love in any form, even if she should turn out to be death itself. He would marry her, he writes, and they would have a daughter together, and name her Life.

And I hate all women

The 135-page second half of the two-part work. Where the first volume gave its devotion to a single imagined beloved, this one turns toward darker terrain—love remains central, but the poems venture freely into the territories of killing and death.
